The cleanliness of our water is an extremely important factor in the ongoing progress and day-to-day operation of our society. That’s why it’s extremely important that we all do our part to prevent accidental contamination of our water supply, and commercial and industrial properties are required to add extra protection in the form of a backflow prevention device. Backflow prevention devices are valves that shut off when they detect a reversed flow of water, preventing any potentially contaminated or compromised water from reaching the public supply where it can quickly spread like wildfire. In addition to requiring these devices, local laws also require that these devices be tested at least once a year to certify that they work and provide adequate protection against backflow.
Mangano Plumbing Sewer & Drain, Inc. works with all types of backflow prevention devices in order to offer exceptional-quality inspection services that ensure your safety and keep your business fully compliant with the law. Who Is Required to Have a Backflow Prevention Device?
Backflow prevention requirements are actually somewhat complex and convoluted, but it’s pretty safe to assume that just about any commercial or industrial facility needs to have one of these devices installed. There are exceptions to this rule in some extremely rare cases, and likewise, the requirement does not extend only to commercial facilities. Some residential buildings (particularly multi-family residential buildings) are required to have these devices in order to protect our potable water supply for everyone else. This is also notably true for residential buildings on college and university campuses.
Make sure your backflow prevention device is properly tested and compliant! Contact Mangano Plumbing Sewer & Drain, Inc. and book your appointment today.
Should your backflow prevention device fail its initial test, your inspector will provide you with a list of repairs or services that need to be done in order to bring your device back up to code. At Mangano Plumbing Sewer & Drain, Inc., we offer backflow prevention device repairs, maintenance, upgrades, and even new installations for those devices that need to be completely replaced. We take your business seriously and treat your problem with the urgency and expertise you demand from a commercial plumber.
With years of experience and skill with all types of backflow prevention, you can count on us to make sure your water supply is compliant once again.
You will have a limited amount of time to complete your device repairs and schedule a re-test. Once your device passes its re-test, then you will have satisfied your testing requirement for the year. Your tester will submit the proper information to the authorities in order to certify that your device is compliant.

Once your device has been initially installed, tested, and certified, you are required to have it tested again by a certified tester every 12 months. All testing must be performed by a Licensed Master Plumber who has been recognized by the State of New York, and the team at Mangano Plumbing Sewer & Drain, Inc., can provide this testing. Worried about forgetting to have your device tested? You should receive a reminder that your inspection is coming due in the mail every year. You will generally have until the end of the month in which your inspection is due to have the test completed before your device is deemed to be out of compliance, however, we advise not waiting and scheduling your test as soon as possible.
